Sifu Gorme teaches traditional Southern Praying Mantis as it was meant to be used, for real life self-defense. Hard Chi Kung and meditation is also included in the training.
Sifu Gorme trains his students to be prepared to respond to a hostile encounter with an opponent. It is a fighting hall. It is a training hall teaching the essential Southern Praying Mantis basic hands techniques and forms and applying them in an actual free fight, not choreographed.
Sifu Gorme’s teaching includes the following:
Three Star Block (to strengthen the forearms), Southern Praying Mantis Steps and Kicks, (ways in which to become rooted, walk, kick and/or block with your legs and ways in which to move around your opponent when fighting).
The 18 Basic Hands of Southern Praying Mantis (used in blocking and/or hitting), Basic Praying Mantis Fists and Forearms Strikes (hitting and/or blocking techniques).
Scattered Hands or Loose Hands (a long left and right hand exercise, split into four sections, designed to apply the basic 18 hands techniques, the fist and forearms strikes, the fist and palm strikes and move, kick and block an opponent. The exercise simulates a continuous fight with an opponent).
Sticky Hands (exercise to learn the relationship of your body to your opponent's body while fighting and strike the opponent's pressure points); Conditioning of the Phoenix Eye Fist.
Blocking of Kicks (the use and application of left, right, frontal, high and low blocking techniques for an opponent's kick using your forearms and legs using Loose Hands and Walking the Horse; counter attacking after and/or when the kick is blocked).
Sam Po Chin (the first and basic form of Southern Praying Mantis and where the 18 basic hands techniques of the Southern Praying Mantis are hidden), Sifu Gorme teaches this form after the student has learned the first quadrant of the Scatter Hands, which is made up of the left and right moves and applications of the 18 basic hands techniques of the Southern Praying Mantis.
18 Point (a fighting forms teaching striking to the left, right, front, high and low. Blows are directed to the opponent's pressure points).
108 (the striking of the opponent's body's pressure points while fighting. 64 points are located in the front of the body and 40 points are located in the back of the body).
Sifu Gorme's weapons training includes 2 Staff forms (the Six Harmony Staff, which is used as an introduction to the use of the staff for the more advanced Southern Praying Mantis Form, "Deadly Snake Blocking the Road"); a single Broad Sword Form; and a Butterfly Knife Form.
